Planning Applications for Holiday Lodges
The GVA Humberts Leisure Planning team has been involved in submitting a large number of planning applications for holiday lodge and log cabin proposals in recent years . Some of our recent success stories are illustrated below.
Brackenborough Lawn, Lincolnshire
Tourist accommodation planning permission secured for a brand new holiday centre at existing residential property set in 14 ha of land on edge of settlement. Includes 137 timber cabins, leisure complex, shop, cycling path, extension to the property, new trees and bus stops. The application included a full planning statement supported by a tourism need and economic impact assessment, landscape and visual impact, flood risk assessment and ecology report.
Sherwood, Nottinghamshire
Tourist accommodation planning permission secured for 60 forest holiday cabins in woodland following submission of comprehensive application with Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment, Ecology Report and independent Market Assessment of the tourism need and economic impact of the proposed development.
Lower Hyde Holiday Park, Isle of Wight
Tourist accommodation planning consent for 12 holiday lodges on surplus recreational land lying between the main holiday park and the adjacent seaside town. The application was submitted with detailed landscaping plans and a full planning statement highlighting national policy support for high quality tourist accommodation. Approved at Planning Committee despite strong objections from local residents.
Blenkinsopp Castle
Tourism planning permission for 12 holiday lodges on a former colliery site, adjacent to a listed building and close to Hadrian's Wall. The application was submitted with a full planning statement highlighting national policy in support of high quality tourist accommodation in popular rural areas.
Avon Forest Spa and Lodges, Hampshire
Tourist accommodation planning permission for seven holiday lodges in lieu of touring caravan pitches one a Green Belt site, on the edge of the New Forest National Park. Members of Planning Committee voted unanimously in favour of this high-quality lodge development, which benefitted from excellent screening in a woodland setting.
Ayshmeade, Sampford Peverell, Devon
Tourism planning consent for 10 holiday lodges on rough grazing field adjacent to village following re-submission of former application which had been refused for being 'tantamount to residential' (before we were involved). We submitted a new application with a full planning statement to highlight national planning policy support for such development and how conditions could be imposed to prevent residential occupation.
The Lillies, Barnham, Sussex
Tourist accommodation planning permission granted for eleven lodges with year-round occupation to replace out-dated static caravans on a holiday park near the Sussex coast. Humberts Leisure then submitted an application for a further twenty-one lodges, which was also approved. Both applications were supported by full planning statements highlighting policy support.
Hassocks, East Sussex
Tourism planning application for 25 holiday lodges, reception and meeting space on recreational land within the South Downs National Park. Submitted with a full Planning Statement supported by a Visual Impact Assessment, Transport Statement, Tourism Need Assessment and overall Vision Statement.
Merley Court Touring Park, Poole, Dorset

Blackmore Vale Caravan Park, Shaftesbury, Dorset
Permission granted for ten holiday lodges and ten all-weather touring pitches on touring park in the countryside and Area of High Landscape Value. The first application was refused by Officers, however we were successful in getting a re-submission heard at Planning Committee, where Members voted unanimously in favour of the proposal.
