The Oxfordshire Golf Club - Sold
HLL Humberts Leisure, acting on behalf of Alan Bloom and Alan Lovett of Ernst & Young, Joint Administrators of Nitto Albion plc and Nitto (Oxfordshire) Ltd, reports the sale of The Oxfordshire Golf Club to Leaderboard Golf. Offers in excess of £6 million were invited for the property.
The Oxfordshire Golf Club, undoubtedly one of the most prestigious golf clubs in England, played host to the Benson & Hedges International Open 1996-1999. The renowned tournament venue extends to approximately 135 hectares (334acres) and comprises a Rees Jones designed 18 hole championship golf course, practice facilities and a magnificent 3,720 sq m (40,000 sq ft) clubhouse. The Club is located some 46 miles from Central London, off Junction 7 of the M40 Motorway near Thame.
Leaderboard Golf, owned by Paul and Jennifer Gibbons, has a portfolio of prestigious golf courses including Chart Hills Golf Club, Kent (designed by Nick Faldo), Dale Hill Golf Resort, Sussex (Ian Woosnam designed championship course) and Sandford Springs Golf Club, Hampshire. The Oxfordshire Golf Club will be a fine addition to Leaderboard Golf’s collection of fine proprietary golf businesses.
Ben Allen BSc (Hons) MRICS, head of HLL Humberts Leisure’s golf and hotels team handled the marketing of The Oxfordshire Golf Club. Ben Allen commented ‘As anticipated, the opportunity to acquire The Oxfordshire Golf Club created unparalleled market interest, especially from international purchasers, corporate operators and trophy buyers. I am confident that the Club will flourish once again now that it is part of Leaderboard Golf.’
Peter Cooper of Ernst & Young’s Hospitality & Leisure team said ‘I am very pleased that the uncertainty of the last few months has been resolved, enabling the members and staff to look forward to a bright future at The Oxfordshire.’
